Sounds and looks like a sleazy, slightly apprehensive (wishing he could mumble or talk through a thick pillow), dissembling, misdirecting mayoral mouthpiece.

It's not mayoral control that sucks; it's Bloomberg's failed and highly destructive methods and ideology. THE SCHOOLS NEED A NEW DIRECTION!!! NOW!!!!!!!
Bloomberg must go!!! Walcott must resign!!!! A crude and arrogant jerk who's studied EE and Bus Admin has no business in the delicate arts surrounding child development, developmental psych, or primary and secondary education. Nor has he the moral right to ignore and defy the wills of schools, communities, parents, education experts and educators! WHAT AN HORRIFIC JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. Mayoral Control does suck. The UFT thought it would work because they could support and help elect a politician who would have their back while simultaneously using the structure to deflect any criticism of the school system...ie...it's the mayor's fault...yada yada...

The longer I teach, the more I am convinced that teachers with their unions should run schools. It would keep things more honest and real and would root out incompetence (a number that is relatively small compared to what the media paints).

Students and parents would play their parts too in terms of input and output. However, they should not "run" the schools like we sometimes hear from some areas of the left. It's just plain silly. I have ideas about how hospitals should run but I would not pretend to think that I should be a part of the operation that runs them.

And to anon...it's not just Bloomberg and Klein...they represent the ruling class's desire to privatize education. It's happening all over our country and in other parts of the world.

Norm,
I just want to hug your puns! Your sarcasm, wittiness, your to 'stick-it' to them are inimitable.

Loved it, too!
