I wanted to quit, so the NYC DOE made me sign an agreement that I would never try to work for them again. I was hired by a NYC school in 2019. I was honest on the Gateway application and the NYC DOE was afraid to tell me to my face I couldn't work for them and that I was breaking a stipulation ageeement. They told me to go home and wait for an e mail. What did they think I was going ro do if they actually told me to my face I couldn't work for them? Get violent? I was up in OPI to find out what the hold up was with me getting through their gateway. And they were whispering and acting skittish and were afraid to look me in the eye. The pandemic hit them so hard, what a shame. I took a teaching job in another state in 2020, and have been living in heavenly bliss. Karma. It exists. Life goes on. I love how impressed people are when I tell them I was a teacher in NYC. They don't know about my year and a half at Chapel Street. They wouldn't believe me anyway. Only a few close friends and family know. It was all politics. I have kept in touch with teachers I met there. We all went on to better lives. It is so draining to be a teacher and not have to do anything! I do not care what any sane legal scholar says, there is in fact a Constitutional right to confront witnesses against you in whatever setting, like if someone told your wife that you were cheating on her, of course you get to interrogate them!Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02302084298780981627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33431390.post-76678835240639342982007-07-24T22:18:00.000-04:002007-07-24T22:18:00.000-04:00This is a good article about the current situation...This is a good article about the current situation of the rubber room. I have seen more people coming every week. I guess "the surge" will continue for sometime before it levels off. I was taken completely by surprise by this action and had to report to the rubber room. I could not stay there.

3020A charges have been filed and I sit at home completely demoralized, humiliated and embarassed by this.

I have a question for someone out there. What happens if at the 3020A hearing, the students who met with SCI do not want to testify and face a cross examination from my attorney? Shame on the DOE: it tramples on due process every step of the way.

From personal experience I offer a bit of hard earned advice: The moment you are "reassigned" find a lawyer familiar with the issues that send teachers to the "Rubber Room," hire him or her. Do not rely on the advice of those merely acquainted with the issues, do not rely on your fellow reassigned teachers advice even though their hard earned experience is very useful. While the representation provided by the UFT certainly has its uses, it is inadequate in many, many ways. Having a real lawyer to provide definitive advice is the single most helpful thing one can do.

Until the pressure on the UFT reaches critical mass, and it dramatically improves its service to the "reassigned," tell anyone you know who has been reassigned to immediately contact a lawyer.

I hope you never need to apply this advice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33431390.post-52761524451121297702006-12-23T17:42:00.000-05:002006-12-23T17:42:00.000-05:00It sounds like a miserable and demoralizing place ...It sounds like a miserable and demoralizing place to be.
