The area that Bernie now laments the Democrats losing (in the presidential election). The vast area where the white vote dominates. The area with the constituency that must be regained if the Democrats (or their successor party) are to return to power. NYT is thoroughly discredited there and, in fact, I would suggest the next Democratic candidate shrewdly refuse their endorsement (if offered).

It is correct (as CNN has tirelessly reported - as if it is unprecedented) that Hillary is now leading in the irrelevant popular vote 61,035,065 to 60,367,210. In the US system , where electoral votes are the sole determiner, Trump won with a fairly substantial 306-232 (slight variation among sources) advantage. Larger margin than JFK, Jimmy Carter, George W (both times), etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33431390.post-7327116149944300572016-11-14T07:21:25.784-05:002016-11-14T07:21:25.784-05:00Most of the country? Violent protests and burning the flag will have the result Anon 4:36 said in his post.....more people running toward the republicans. Their actions are making Trump's point about violence in cities and the need for law and order resonate with more Americans. As with all hot button issues some protesters are legit and others are using it as an excuse to be a thug or an asshole. They are alienating any chance of reasonable voices challenging what may come after January 20th. They looked to me like misbehaving folks causing the Republican ranks to swell.

Almost comically, the rioters set fire to an American Flag last night in Atlanta in what they undoubtedly believed (or at least their apologists will rationalize) was "responding to the racist, anti-immigrant, anti-women things the president-elect said. They were putting the Republicans on notice that we are not going to roll over." I say comically because they don't know how appalling burning a US flag on Veterans Day is to about 99% of the American electorate. Another move to further alienate just about all voters and to further swell Republican ranks. At some point a wise and brave Democrat will loudly and repeatedly tell the rioters/protestors to go home and shut the front door. But give credit to him. He seems convinced that an economic message, rather than the usual race-baiting (class-baiting, gender-baiting,etc.) is the message for success. Hmmmm

Most likely the DNC leadership will lurch hard left thereby ensuring long term Republican dominance. Recent rumors that Rep. Ellison (a long time reparations supporter) is next in line after the disgraced Wasserman-Shultz and Brazile. And disgraced is a gentle fate for what they were caught, red-handed, doing. Will anyone besides MSNBC viewers support a hard left ("progressive") Democrat party? Could the Republicans wish for anything better?

The sad rioters the last three nights are just adding more (appalled) voters to the future Republican ranks. And assuring those who voted Trump that they did the right thing. Could the Republicans wish for anything better? Not sure the Dems realize that - or they would be cleverly, publicly, and repeatedly be urging dispersal.

(I am not 5:59 but his/her observation that Hillary's promise to raise taxes contributed to her defeat is on target. Come back in 4 years and let me know how that works out. I'll be in New Zealand where you pay very high taxes but actually get services for your money. You get what you pay for and what you'll get is rotting highways and bridges falling down plus food not safe to eat as regulations disappear. ed notes onlinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15018047869059226777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33431390.post-52559320971167473542016-11-12T05:59:58.151-05:002016-11-12T05:59:58.151-05:00Why did Clinton lose and Trump win? At first I was...Why did Clinton lose and Trump win? At first I was as stunned as everyone else with the election results. However, I urge folks to carefully look at the two tax plans put forward by the two candidates. Clinton's tax plan was going to cost higher income earners quite a bit more in federal income taxes, whereas the Trump plan was cutting their tax bill big time. Small business owners and large corporations will benefit greatly under Trump's plan. Under Hillary's plan, for example, a married couple reporting an AGI of $730,000 would have paid an additional $78,000 a year in federal income taxes. Higher earners would have lost many more thousands under the Clinton plan. Now, Warren Buffet may want to pay more in income taxes but I sincerely believe that most people do not want to pay more in income taxes regardless of the how the politician states the money will be spent. In the end, people may have voted their wallets. During her campaign I recall Hillary Clinton stating a few times that she planned on raising taxes to pay for her programs. Candidates that state they fully intend to raise taxes don't do well on election day.American Radio Designhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13527963112878959110noreply@blogger.com
