SPREAD THE WORD!
Dear Parent Leaders and Community Advocates:
District 13 is under attack by Community Roots Charter School and DOE.
We need every available body tonight at our P.S. 67 located at St. Edwards between Park Ave and Myrtle. 5:30
CRCS would like to have a middle school and have taken rooms from PS 67. PS 67 has a class in a closet. While CRCS has the famous class size of 25 and two teachers they also received an F on their last progress report.
We have had enough of the DOE and their Charter Schools.

Dear Office of Public Affairs:
Tonight I was made aware of a hearing for Community Roots Charter School via conversation.
They would like to add a middle school in District 13.
As a member of the CEC we were not given proper notice to participate in the hearing. Was this supposed to be a joint hearing with District 13?
Also, what are they legally supposed to do in regard to the new law?
Should the creation of a new middle school option for district 13 families?
Where do they plan to expand this school?
How many rooms were allocated to them when they entered PS 67? They are using the library exclusively and have locked out the D75 and PS 67 schools.
I am requesting that you cancel this hearing in respect of the law and the district 13 community that will be impacted.
Sincerely,
Khem Irby
CEC13

District 13 zoned schools are in so much trouble.
ReplyDeleteLast night the PEP voted to allow Arts and Letters to expand to a middle school within PS 20, a zoned school with an amazing new principal from 261. They could have waited a few years to give her time to build her student body, but no. Tish James and Marty Markowitz said they were in favor of delaying the vote and finding a new location for Arts and Letters, but they backed down at the last minute...probably knowing that it was a done deal before the PEP hearing.
My child attends another zoned school in District 13 that is improving, but the opening of the new Arts and Letters elementary school will hurt us by "creaming" our school, and now our kids can't attend the middle school.
District 15 was lucky. Those parents and educators got a chance to improve the schools before the charter craze. Now District 13 parents croon about how they want choices like District 15, never realizing that most of the choices there are zoned schools that people committed to. Oh well. These parents are going to have to cross their fingers and pray they get into whatever "progressive" lottery school they invented, because they aren't going to have solid zoned schools to fall back on. At this rate they may not have any zoned schools at all.
What a mess.
Not that it matters at this point, but Khem Irby is spreading untruths: PS 67 does not have any classes in a closet, and Community Roots has not "locked D75 and PS 67 out of the library. Community Roots is not staging an "attack" on District 13, but is trying to improve education in the district.
