This will likely lead to yet another major flop. really he should have stayed in the Justice Dept. where no one realized his incompetence. Hopefully he'll stay out of education for good!... comment on listserveUncle Joel has a new job. And yet another venture to fuck up.

Joel I. Klein, the former chancellor of the New York City public school system, is moving beyond education to become a top executive at Oscar, a New York health insurance start-up with a focus on technology, the company announced on Thursday.
Mr. Klein was the chancellor of New York City schools from 2002 to 2010, when he left to work for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation as a top adviser and leader of the expanding education division of his media company.
He became chief executive of Amplify, a digital education business owned by News Corporation. Begun as a testing software maker, the business under News Corporation invested millions in an attempt to weave technology into schools, primarily through custom-made tablets.
Yet its rollouts were marred by issues, including disappointing sales, and last year it stopped selling the tablets to new customers amid a wave of layoffs. News Corporation sold Amplify to the company’s management team and new investors last fall, writing off $371 million in losses. By that point, Mr. Klein had stepped down as chief executive, though he remains on the company’s board.
At Oscar, Mr. Klein will become the chief policy and strategy officer. The health insurance company aims to appeal to tech-savvy users with an easy-to-navigate website, free tele-visits with doctors, and greater transparency about how much doctors charge for services. It has 125,000 members in four states across the country, a news release from the company said.
In an email, Mr. Klein said he saw his new role in a similar way to his efforts in education. “Health care is another area that needs major reform in America and Oscar is leading the way,” he said.
“Joel is precisely the kind of leader who can drive this critical mission forward and help shape and articulate the key policies and messages showing how Oscar is changing the health care system for the benefit of consumers,” Mario Schlosser, the chief executive of the company, said in a statement.
He's apparently not out of messing with public education. On March 10 he will give the 13th Annual John Templeton, Jr. lecture at the Constitution Center. His lecture will "explore the problems plaguing public education and offers a blueprint for how they can be solved."

More blueprints? His big wet fart at the DOE didn't save anybody. Who's buying his blueprints? Exploding tablets. Tanking a division of Newscorp. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteJOel Klein has been exposed as a kid from queens who some how earned a degree in law. However, this guy looks like the lost creatures on the adventures of superman series from the 50's. He is so horrible to look at and he compounds it with his rhetoric of bull shit. Klein drove the NYC schools into oblivion and then he drove the rupert murdoch education to bankruptcy when he and newscorp got it up their ass when they realized nobody is buying their bull shit tablets for which klein thought he was going to rule education. So now this creature is looking to sell insurance - be wary people of the insurance salesmen showing up at your door as Klein would probably think going door to door will raise sales....lol ....omg thank GOd he is out of NYC schools!!!
ReplyDeleteWish that were true. The majority of people downtown are still his creatures, and our fool of a so-called chancellor was/is his right hand girl!
