Unity can out social justice anyone any day of the week. They can't defend members, however....a member of ICEBut as Fiorillo points out basic defense of membership is the essential of SJ union work. So in essence they don't out social justice anyone - unless you take the narrowest view of SJ.
In fact - this Wed from 3-6PM MORE will be doing a workshop on how to defend members and support the contract at the Dark Horse on Murray Street - as SJ as anything Unity does.
But a lesson for MORE is that Unity has the resources to implement events like this. MORE is planning its own SJ conference this summer that I'm sure will be more interesting.

Subject: Come to a three-day workshop about social justice
I'm curious whether social justice a la Unity includes non-rigged elections. If so I'm on board. Shall sit while I wait nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteIt includes working with the community, advocating for kids more than teachers and not standing up for bad teachers, aka ATRs. Unity is it.
