Per the NY Times "Arts Beat" column's weekend wrap-up of the national movie box office results:
Walden Media’s “Won’t Back Down,” an education reform drama starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal, bombed, selling about $2.7 million in tickets in wide release.
Sometimes there IS a little justice in the world. Really a shame that two such respectable actresses could fall for such propagandist claptrap, and judging from the critics, incredibly poorly written to boot.

As I wrote on the blog today, the film made an unbelievably low $82 per screening in its opening weekend.
NYC Public School Parents Critics and audiences agree: "Won't Back Down" a tremendous flop
Only question is how long Murdoch and Anschutz can keep it going; esp since Anschutz also owns regal cinemas, the largest movie theater chain in nation.

Viola Davis is a charter school advocate. She gives money and has her Hollywood friends give money to the charter school in Central Fall, RI, not the public school she graduated from.
That decision says an awful lot about her politics.
What does it say about her politics? She freely gives money to whom she chooses. Your statement sounds judgemental. Do Gap employees have an obligation to buy only Gap clothes? How about a GM employee buying a Ford? Seems like those types of obligations end at the limits of the agreement. Sounds like good action on the RI school to get outside funds like lots of public schools do for themselves. Sounds like democracy, you know, free speech and all. Why should she have to remain "loyal" to her public school? I hope we can still make our own decisions and change our minds in our society. Can we do that in yours?
