Teachers Protest Principal Iris Blige at Fordham High School for the Arts

Sometimes, the yo-yo principals who emerge from under the rocks at Tweed go too far. The UFT got the permits and will brag about their support. But as we are seeing around the city teachers are beginning to take action. Expect to see a lot more of this as teachers get fed up. And maybe Fordham U should be taken to task for the use of its name if is it officially associated with the school for supporting union busting.

RALLY FOR JUSTICE -- RALLY FOR JUSTICE

Fordham High School for the Arts

The principal at this school, Iris Blige, is abusive, arrogant, and disrespectful of teachers. She has framed several teachers that for some reasons made her angry. One teacher has been completely devastated by Bilge’s abuse and the way Blige framed her to get rid of her. On Friday, February 13, 2009, teachers all wore black to stand in solidarity with this teacher. The situation has gotten so bad everyone is now ready to walk out. Two chapter leaders resigned because they claim that they couldn't deal with her. Blige said "the school was too small for any kind of union presence."

Join us to protest the unfounded removal of yet another teacher by Principal Iris Blige!

Demand the immediate return of Raqnel James to the classroom!

Protest Chancellor Klein's support of abusive principals!

Fight against Klein's support for principals who make false allegations!

Speak out against principals who are retaliatory and intimidating!

Schools need quality principals and real leadership!

Yes, it's full time for Blige to go. Klien has given too much power for principals to be abusive. Blige needs a psychological evaluation. Whoever in the Board of Education has been giving her this power needs to be fired. An entire restructuring of the Board of Education needs to be done. This should be used as an example to all the principal. It's time for the mayor to consider re-evaluating principals rather than closing schools.

It is a shame that a principal who needs to empower educators to make a difference for our children's lives is working to distroy professionals and to use her power to discriminate and to humiliate those who are trying to make a difference. Ms. Blige may have a degree but she needs a simple education that comes from home. She has a lot to learn to develop about compassion and consideartion. She needs to learn about team work collaboration. Dictatorship does not work in America. As Americans, we have come a long way to end slavery and abuse.

The following is a report to the attention of the UFT and NYCDOE. A. Philip Randolph High School is located on the campus of City College. The principal Mr. Rubio has been a principal there for the past three years. According to teachers, parents and students, Mr. Rubio has made his mission to destroy the school. Mr. Rubio come to school late and leaves work early. He is nowhere to found in the school. He has become the invisible principal. Many parents complaint that Mr. Rubio is not doing any work for the children in this school. In addition to that teacher complaint that Mr. Rubio is a bully. There are allegations that he never had a teacher certificate and that Queens College as well as Fordham University have no record of Mr. Rubio Attendance to this institutions. At the New York State Department of Education no records show that he ever had any teacher credential. In addition to that there no record showing the school name from where he complete his administration program. I think that giving the allegation that it would be important for the UFT as well as the New York City Department of Education and the New York State Education Department to take a look at this particular case very closely. Many Teachers have already complaint to the Union and the DOE but nobody is doing anything to stop Mr. Rubio abuse of power and his lack of professional ethics. The Superintend Francesca Pena is Mr. Rubio Godmother which according to the chancellor’s is illegal for anyone to be hire by a family member. It would be important to keep mind that school DATA has been change to help improve the school report card, this include Grades to help student graduate without teacher approval , attendance record has been alter to improve daily attendance record. For the past two many students have to seat in the auditorium for more than four weeks before attending class. If it is truth that Mr. Rubio hold the credential he from the following institutions he should do the following.
1. Present his Diploma from Queens College and an official Transcript.
2. Present his Diploma from Fordham University and an official Transcript.
3. Give the name of the institution from where he completed His Advance certification in school Leadership.
4. He should also provide prove of his teacher credentials of all the years.

This is a call to all the institution to please investigate what is going on with this particular case.

As a teacher I know how principals can become abusive. Let's not single out just Ms. Bilge since there are so many more just like her. Principals should be evalvauated just like teachers are evaluated. This way their behavior won't get out of control and there is a better chance that they will act appropriately. This is the only way things could possible work out in a fair way. But Bloomberg and the people that work for him who never worked in a school should be the last ones to tell people who work in schools what to do.
