Teacher Letter to Mulgrew on TDR Release: Demand Release of Administrator Rankings

You need to accuse the mayor and the DOE of promoting low ranked teachers to leadership positions as administrators and hiding it from the public---and you need to point out that there are former NYC "low ranked" teachers who now have students with higher scores in the burbs----to point out the inaccuracy/waste of taxpayers dollars etc... of this nonsense. ---- NYC Teacher to Mulgrew

What a delicious idea. With so many loser admins running around who couldn't teach their way out of a paper bag, how about demanding the release of their data reports when they were teaching --- if they taught at all. I mean, these are the people observing and supervising teachers.

But we do mixed feelings about what is being asked for if you claim the reports are not accurate for teachers. On the other hand, with so many administrators being protected and given bonuses it might be fun to see the results.

Dear Colleagues:
Now is the time to demand that the UFT stand up and shout out the mayor and the DOE.  Our new evaluations will also be made public and our names and ratings will be printed in the NYPOST. Forward this to all NYC teachers in your address books.  I am sending the below in an email. I suggest you email as well if you agree.
Roseanne

Dear Mr. Mulgrew:
Now that the DOE must release TDR info to the press and names will appear in newspapers, is it not the best time to insist that they include all current administrators who had TDRs as teachers as well as teachers who left the system for the suburbs?  And if they do not----you need to scream "COVER-UP"---- You need to accuse the mayor and the DOE of promoting low ranked teachers to leadership positions as administrators and hiding it from the public---and you need to point out that there are former NYC "low ranked" teachers who now have students with higher scores in the burbs----to point out the inaccuracy/waste of taxpayers dollars etc... of this nonsense.  I have no TDR reports---but I am outraged for my  colleagues who do have them.  Anything less shows us you are not committed to the cause.  I want to know what my APs' rankings were as teachers.  If you want us to believe you are truly in our corner, demand it and make those demands loudly and publicly.  Anything less is insufficient and a waste of union time and effort.

The UFT should FOIL the info/background on admins. How many are leadership grads? How many come from other institutions? How many have two years of prior teaching experience?

How many were never granted tenure as a teacher first? Yes you can become an admin without having been granted tenure. Yes. Yes. That statement is accurate.

Where is the media on this? Ed activists should exploit this fact. How can schools be run by individuals who are totally inexperienced?

How hard would it be for ed activists to start identifying the zombie principals (and their background)and creating fliers that highlight their deficiencies and then handing them out to parents?

This is a war.

Anyone can foil. don't wait for the uft. teachers in every school with lousy admins should start the process. the mere fact that this is happening might cause some of these characters to back off. imagine a u rated teacher claiming the admin was low rated.

Norm,

If NYC schools are producing less than 50% proficiency in ELA and Math, does that mean 100% of those teachers are not doing their jobs. If so, why have administrators been giving satisfactory ratings all along? And if so, why haven't those administrators been dismissed?

Now is the time to give the dailies the evaluations of all the members of the Weingarten- Mulgrew Vichy operation- how they played ball with Klein-Walcott-Bloomberg in ruining the reputations of stellar teachers, how the two of them made deals to use the 800 rubber roomers as examples of horrible teachers, how the Unity crowd underminded the age discrimintation complaint that Randi filed with the EEOC, saying they deserved to be fired- how RAndi backed off on the entire case, published a libelous letter- for the first time in UFT history against a 67 year old teacher who Randi told me should quit because she is too old and "no one likes her." THe teacher had to hire her own lawyer and settled with the D.O.E.!
lets publish the $150,000 to $220,000 salaries of the bosses and compare them to the starting salaries of secretaries $24,000 who do most of the work.
Who is evaluating Mulgrew and his minions like LeRoy Barr, Ellie Engler, Dick Riley, Dave Hickey who are proud of the fact that the members are working without a contract since 2009 (a pay decrease given the cost of living) because Randi and Mulgrew told Unity they had a secret deal for two, four percent raises if we we dumped Bill THompson- a close ally of the union for years.
Yes, let's evaulate and start at 52 Broadway.

Now is the time to FOIL every evaluation principals have made on their crony sidekicks. A ten year time frame sounds like true transparency. Also FOIL every document that never became public, including bogus job offerings.

There is so much in what you say I don't know where to begin agreeing first, Jim. I know you were victimized by a union witch-hunt, and I have my own "black-listing" story about 14 years of loyal, and I believe, successful service, to the UFT Professional Development Program, which I was unfairly forced from, in typically nasty union style; that is one of the 8 million "Naked Union" stories that needs to be told as an expose in this city. But for now, lets start "calling out" Mulgrew and company for caring more about keeping the status quo than about engaging in real leadership, here in the proverbial 9th hour! I believe that the Delegate Ass-emblies need to be "occupied", and "democratized", as these serve as a rubber stamp operation to "gloss" Mulgrew's total capitulation to the Powers that be, over and over again, as it did for his predecessors...
